Argument Against The Soda Ban

The Soda Ban was a law proposed by the mayor of New York in which would place a limitation on the amount of soda that could be consumed by the people of the city. Despite the fact that there are numerous people who believe the soda ban has the potential of positively impacting the economy immensely, the soda ban should not be put into effect simply because it strips people of their civil liberties, it can in several ways be avoided, and it has little to no health benefits. Firstly, by agreeing with this law people are virtually signing off their rights to the government and allowing them to determine what’s best for them. In the article “Ban the Ban”, the text states “If despite all those efforts, someone chooses to have a suagary drink anyway, that is their choice and their right. We should all remain in control of the liberites we withold, ensuring the government dosen’t decide what could easily be decided ourselves.
