Pennies have been around since the early 1900s and has been a huge part of United States History. The penny represents strong will, positivity, and pure energy. Abraham Lincoln our 16th president is the face on the penny since is one-hundredth birthday. The reason Lincoln is on the penny because he was an historical figure in the US. But the penny needs to go, it's unfortunate for the US even though it’s part of our history and economy. The penny cost too much, they're too heavy to ship, and a lot of people refuse the penny for change o if they do the pennis collected dust in a drawer.
The penny had been part of American history for a very long time, but it cost more than what it is worth. According to Sommer, the US lost $60.2 million on production and distribution in 2011 on the penny. The penny cost the US mint more than 2.4 cents to produce, but the penny is only worth one cent. Some people don’t want pennies, they refuse them has change or throw them in a drawer. Others say the penny is too important to ban because it's part of the American History. Maria Story stated that, “ The history of the penny reveals more than just a coin-it exposes a piece of American culture.” The people who are against the ban say that the penny is part of our economy, I agree but it is costing the US too much to keep the production on the penny going.
Although the penny is part of American history, it should be banned for many reasons. It’s not worth the production, US doesn’t ship them, and many people decline it for change. The pennies collected dust in drawers. In my belief the penny should be eliminated and stop the production of the penny. If you believe you the penny should be banned what's your call to action? Send a letter to congress, send one to the president, start a protest to ban the penny, do what you can if you believe the penny should
