Congress is currently debating on whether or not Columbus Day should still be a holiday. Christopher Columbus was an exquisite explorer, originally from Genoa, Italy. He is responsible for many explorations, however is most commonly known for his vital role in the discovering of the Americas. Columbus deserves to keep his spot on the calendar because he started the Columbian Food Exchange, he possesses stellar character traits, and because of his incredible impact with the Tainos people. Without the Columbian Food Exchange the world would be very different now, in a negative way. For instance, at the time of the exchange, Africa and many other countries were struggling to find a crop that could grow quickly and in large numbers, to keep their people from starving. Christopher was extremely successful. He completed numerous voyages and explorations, his most famous one being his first of four trips to the America’s. Additionally, Columbus was also extremely mindful and intelligent. For instance he realized that he was having troubles with his crew because they did not like or respect him because he was a foreigner. However, those handful of people that did appreciate him warned him to be cautious around certain men. This helped him to stay on top of his mission and lead them to land now known as the Bahamas. Adding on, he made sure that people had necessary resources in the new world. He brought over loads of resources from the Eastern Hemisphere which allowed people to survive in North, Central, and South America. Furthermore, he was responsible.
