Imagine you’re lying in a hospital bed, slowly dying from a terminal illness. The disease is causing excruciating pain and will continue to do so until it finally takes your life. Would it not be more humane, and merciful, to give the people in such scenarios the option to bring all the suffering to a quicker end? Yet in 90% of the U.S. euthanasia is illegal and considered criminal homicide. The people going through these tribulations are told that they must stay and suffer to hold off the inevitable; euthanasia should be an option open to those who are sick and dying as a means to relieve the pain. Euthanasia can follow the idea of “my body, my choice” that many people use as a justification for abortion. The decision would be given to the
