Founded in 1799, Aurora has grown from a small Ohio farming town to a 25-square-mile suburban city. Around the early 1960s, interest grew in the potential for suburban residential development due to proximity to the major Akron and Cleveland metropolitan areas. Most housing developments in the Aurora real estate market have been highly-priced single-family homes and condominiums. Aurora's desire to maintain its heritage has prompted community leaders to establish and maintain architectural standards to comply and be compatible with the Western Reserve architectural style.

Aurora offers easy access to many major roadways, including Routes 43, 82, and 306; Interstates 480, 422, 271, and 76; and the Ohio Turnpike. Two large airports are near the area and a few smaller, local airways are nearby, too.
Aurora is within driving distance of 24 colleges and universities, the second largest concentration of educational resources in the United States, leading the world in bioscience, polymer, liquid crystal, computer and industrial research and technology. Excellent educational opportunities are provided by the City of Aurora School District, which is composed of two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one Christian Academy.
