In September of 1864 one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War erupted.The Battle of Pilot Knob, also known as The Battle of Fort Davidson, took place in Pilot Knob, Missouri. Before the chaos it was said that “for nearly an hour, a hush fell over the peaceful valley - the silence before the storm” (ancestry.com). In less than half an hour nearly 1,000 Confederate soldiers lay wounded at the foot of Pilot Knob Mountain.
