The Beatles were an expansively influential music group of the 1960’s. With such hits as, “Please, Please Me”, “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” and, “She Loves You,” the Fab Four enlisted a huge fan base internationally in what may seem like was overnight. But did The Beatles come about just at the right time? Were they what the people of the Sixties, especially in America, needed? The following essay will examine The Beatles as a political chess piece, beginning with a bit of history on the Four, as well as on America, and flowing into their evolution as musicians and the influence they had on several aspects of society. Beatles were rock band formed in Liverpool England in 1960 and gotseparated in 1970. Beatles had four members: John Lennon, PaulMcCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Two of the four membersare alive today: Paul and Ringo. Beatles are considered by many to bethe greatest and most influential act of rock era. Three of their songs: “Iwant to hold your hand” (1963), “Norwegian wood” (1965) and “A dayin the life” (1967) paints the picture of their development assongwriters and performers.“I want to hold your hand” was Beatles’ first American number one hitand their first record to be made using four-track equipment (i.e.,composition of separate recordings into cohesive whole). Structurally,the song had modified thirty-two-bar form with two-bridgemodel. Thirty-two bar form follows AABA format with B section knownas the Bridge. The song itself seems to be inspired by the relationshipPaul McCartney had with actress Jane Asher during that time. Lyricallythe song does not seem to have much of substance in it. Almost, 1/3 ofthe song is the repeated line: I want to hold your hand.“Norwegian wood” was a key contributing factor to
