In the reading 'Beowulf' there were many things going on. The main character in this poem is Beowulf, in the beginning of this poem, it starts off with a weary situation of the monster Grendel he has a lot of strength and courage to do pretty much anything. Beowulf decides he should go to this town Grendel lives in because of what has happened over the past 12 years. Grendel has killed so many people that Beowulf chooses to change that and make this town better again. In the poem 'The Iliad' Achilles has to deal with many things that people wouldn’t want to face ever. He has a really good relationship with Patroclus they are closest of friends. Achilles gets outraged, but the reasons he does is for a good reason. He gets into many battles and the main battle he gets into is with Hector.

Achilles has pride because he never gives up on things. An example of this is when he gets in the battle with hector, he shows how bad he wants to win because of what he did to Patroclus. Beowulf is the opposite he doesn’t have a mean personality, he is more chill and let things come when they want to kind of guy. The example that shows this is he doesn’t force Grendel to come to where he is, he waits for when he wants to come then finishes him off when he comes.
Finally, a modern hero is someone who is there for people when things are bad and help the people that are in danger. Beowulf is more of a modern day hero because of what he does for the town and for the people that are in danger because of Grendel.
