Character Archetypes

There are numerous example of a character archetype in the movie “Lord Of The Rings”. One of the good example is the creature of the night which are the ringwraiths, they were hunting Frodo and his companion just to take the ring back and they don’t hesitate to kill anyone who stands in their way.

The one example of a mentor in the movie is Gandalf. He guides not only Frodo, but also the others accompanying him. As a wise wizard a lot of people respect him very much, just like Bilbo Baggins, who he had mentored during the quest to recover the gold from Smaug. He tells Frodo, where to go when he found out something was wrong about the ring, he searched for any information about the ring, and when they got to the Elven kingdom, and Frodo, took responsibility for the ring to destroy it, he also wanted to come with him to fulfill his quest. Gandalf, is a very good mentor because he gives motivation to Frodo, and others and even sacrificed himself just to let them escape from Balrog. He took the burden to accept the quest to destroy the ring, because no one else wanted to and thinks it's impossible to get to mount doom. He is also the hero because he is the main character in the book and movie. He was very heroic in a lot of way. He didn’t give up on Gandalf’s quest to take the ring to the person he didn’t even know about, even though they were getting hunted by the ringwraiths. He also took the responsibility to take on the quest that no one wanted to take on because it was dangerous and the success rate is extremely low. The quest was to take the ring to mount doom and destroy it there. Frodo also wasn’t a coward during the quest as he fought monsters during the quest even though he could have died he still didn’t cower away just to save his own
