Ducks have become infected with the virus and are dying rapidly. People come in contact with ducks often because it is a big food source in this area. Indonesia does not have access to treatment because of it being a poor country and many people die from the virus.

Avian Influenza A.K.A Bird Flu

Avian influenza is caused by the H5N1 virus. Its reservoir is wild birds, but if domesticated birds come into physical contact with an infected bird they too can become affected. The transmission of the virus from bird to bird is quick because birds live in big groups that interact with each other often. The virus is spread through physical contact and humans can contract it through contact with an infected animal. People at high risk are those who work with birds, such as poultry farmers. Also, the virus can be found in the meat of an infected bird and can be transmitted through the consumption of that meat. Human to human transmission is possible with close and constant contact with others.
