Introduction The American Revolution is a defining moment in the establishment of our country that took place on March 5th, 1770. It paved the way to American freedom and the America that we have today. The American Revolution is composed of several events that lead to our eventual victory over Britain. One of these events is the Boston Massacre. Event The Boston Massacre was given its name by the colonists after 5 Bostonians were killed in what was supposedly a peaceful riot. It all started while Private White of the British military struck young Edward Garrick in the face for insulting his commanding officer. Soon, many other Bostonians had created a crowd near Private White, taunting him as well as throwing snowballs at him. Arriving shortly after the crowd formed was Captain Preston of the 29th Regiment. In his wake were 8 other Redcoats. They were there for one reason: extract White from the crowd of rioters. Around the time that this incident occurred, the citizens of Boston had been fed up with the British soldiers occupying their city for so long that an incident such as this was bound to happen eventually. Also, the soldiers that were tried for the Boston Massacre were represented with the patriot John Adams as their lawyer. He stated that he defended the troops not because he believed in their cause, but because he believed that they should be defended by competent counsel. Many colonists believed John Adams to be defending the soldiers and caused many people to question where his loyalty was.
