In Brave New World, Huxley successfully satirizes the ironies of society. Specifically, he ridicules society’s need for conformity as well as its deterioration of respect for human life. He does this by use of vivid imagery and irony in order to convey his exigence that society should be careful to not succumb to the traps of conformity and to respect the sanctity of human life.

Throughout the passage, Huxley uses vivid imagery to paint a picture for the reader of the crazed frenzy outside the lighthouse. He does this effectively by juxtaposing two scenes: one of the excited crowd outside the lighthouse and the other of Lenina, depicted as a perfect sexual object with her “doll-beautiful face” and “her blue eyes [that] seemed to grow larger,
