Brownies In the story “brownies” by ZZ Packer, the main character’s troop was on a camping trip at camp Crescendo. Their troop disliked troop 909, they had believed that troop 909 called them names. With that, the girls wanted revenge and wanted to fight troop 909. The girls in this story were in fourth grade and showed signs of childish behavior throughout the story. The girls pulled and planned many pranks throughout the story. The troop planned on getting back at troop 909 for calling them names by, sneaking into their cabin. When they were in the cabin they were going to put daddy long legs in troop 909’s sleeping bags. And when they woke up from the daddy long legs they would beat them up. Also, Octavia snuck up behind Janice and pretended to push her into the stream. She didn’t push her but she was close enough to actually push her in. also, Arenetta killed the troops goldfish by feeding it a fry covered in ketchup. She, however, told …show more content…
The girls use insulting nicknames, for example, they call the main character snot. Their reason for this is when she was in first grade she sneezed and mucus splattered on a girl. They use the word snot not only as a nickname but to bully her and make her feel inferior to them. They use exotic words that sound vulgar and use them into their conversations such as, “Djibouti” and “asinine.” They would find these words by flipping through the dictionary. They would also transform words, they would use normal words and change the meanings on them to make them insults. They would use words like Chihuahua and Caucasian. They would say to one another “what are you, Caucasian?” and say “that’s so Caucasian.” The word Caucasian went around their school like wildfire and everyone was using the word as an insult even the only Caucasian kid in the school The girls arrived at camp crescendo and their first insult was to troop 909 saying that they smelled like wet
