Whether we know it or not, we have all been victims of false advertisement. Many companies promise that their product will perform a certain task, but in some cases that never happens. In my experiment, I will be putting Carb Cutter on trial to test how effective it is. Carb Cutter is weight loss product that claims to lower weight gain by blocking starches. The breakdown of starch leads to weight loss because, eating too much starch will lead to your body storing excess starch fat; amylase is responsible for breaking down starch. During the digestion of starch, starch is turned into polysaccharides and the body must absorb glucose, fructose, and galactose; too many polysaccharides will be stored as fat in the body. In new test tubes, we allowed the starch, tris buffer and amylase solution to sit to different amounts of before adding the Carb Cutter to get absorbance values. After we received the absorbance values, created a standard to curve to receive missing information. We placed it on a graph to give us a visual of the effectiveness of Carb Cutter. As time passes, we see that Carb Cutter slowly begin to decrease the amount of carbohydrates. Though the numbers do not create a perfect decreasing linear line, the graph definitely show the effectiveness off Carb Cutter. This experiment confirmed our original hypothesis; hence Carb Cutter seems to be a legitimate way to cut down on carbohydrates.
