DEATH AND DYING CHILDREN’S BOOK ASSIGNMENT

3) What is the theme of the book?
-The theme of this book is that death is a natural aspect of the cycle of life and we all have a purpose. Another theme in this book is seen in the relationship between Freddie and Daniel, the wise leaf. Daniel acted a a model and a guide to help Freddie through all the seasons which led to his death.

4) Briefly describe how death or dying or grief or loss is presented in the book.
-I would say that Buscaglia wanted to present the subject of death as a peaceful, natural part of life that everyone and thing in this world has to go through at some point in life.
Buscaglia personifies a maple leaf that is going through the process of death, which is expressed through how we see plants live and die through the seasons. He also expressed in his book that dying in this world, does not necessarily mean that you are dead, but that there may be an afterlife, and even though you may pass away life goes on for everyonelse that is alive.
