Discuss three benefits of using CBM to monitor students’ reading progress. There are multiple benefits of using CBM to monitor students’ reading progress, but the three biggest benefits are the following:
1. It helps teachers create a database that demonstrates each of their students’ reading growth. Teachers use the CBM data on key reading skills to create the database for each student’s reading growth throughout the year. This database can also be used for the students’ IEPs.
2. It helps teachers know when they need to make changes to their instruction. If students are doing poorly on the probes, the teacher can change their teaching methods and make their instruction more effective.
3. It helps teachers know which students are at risk of failure or doing well. Teachers can provide extra support and services for their students at risk.
4. Describe two ways that graphs of CBM data can help a teacher to discuss a student’s progress with her or his parents.

There are many ways that CBM graph data can do this, but I am going to talk about the two biggest ways it helps teachers discuss a student’s progress with his or her parents. The teacher can show the parents their child’s achievements throughout the academic year on a nice, neat graph. The second way is that it helps teachers talk about the goals the child is expected to meet by year’s end. The parents can then give their child additional support if need
