Cesar Chavez created one of the first big movements to create unions that would benefit the migrant works, most of which were Latino immigrant, and gave them the power to bargain for better wages, safer working conditions and other necessities. The bargaining power that they gained protected them from dangerous working conditions such as overworking, pesticides, lack of water while working. It also made the “invisible” works visible to the nation, as well as the suffering they endured providing the food that went on everyone’s table while they and their families were starving.
With better wages and working conditions, migrant workers now had a batter chance to move themselves or their children up in life. It was also a chance to end the cycle of poverty, not only were the workers doing better for themselves, but their children would not have to work to support their families as well, so they could attend school. With all the negative rhetoric surrounding the Latino culture, especially on both legal and illegal immigration, I think that there is an extremely negative picture being painted of these people and their cultures. With the current administration and president, things could take a turn for the worse in the future. Right now, we’re dealing with potential repercussion of DACA being canceled for good, or the possibilities of what could take its place, as well as an elimination or severe reduction of legal immigration. The entire controversy could have poor results, and at this point we can only wait to see what the repercussions will be. It is also possible that immigration and DACA could see some mild extension or continuation and it could fade from the minds of the “general” public as news is pulled along to the newest
