Cesar Chavez’s argument for nonviolent resistance is that Chavez compares the effects of nonviolent resistance is more beneficial. He examines the outcomes the outcomes of both violent and nonviolent resistance to help the reader feel persuaded with his ideas. Chavez’s argument is effective because he describes why nonviolence is so important through Allusion to Gandhi, Parallelism, and Juxtaposition.

Chavez uses Allusion to Gandhi to create ethos and allow the reader to agree more fully with his views. For example, he points out Gandhi’s use of nonviolent protest, boycotting, in lines 62-64. He says that boycotting allowed “masses of people to participate actively in a cause.” Chavez begins his speech with referring to god in lines, 9-12.
