Chapter 13 of An Introduction to Group Work Practice focused on ending the group’s work. One concept of ending group work discussed was member termination. This section stated that when a member leaves a group the worker may wonder what they did to cause the member to not return to the group. There has been many studies that found that the worker was not always responsible for the member leaving, and there are various factors that lead to premature termination. I need to remember this if I become a group leader and that this doesn’t necessarily mean that the treatment failed. I should try to determine what led to a member dropping out so that in the future I could make accommodations to future groups, such as child care, arranging transportation,
