It is a really tough dilemma, do you make the sacrifices to help the greater good of your own society, or is it better to spare the opposing people during your expansion and risk the good of your own society?

Thinking about it, the whole American Expansion was cause by a hybrid of Self-interest and Idealism. In some form or way, the idealistic view of American expansion will always come back to self-interest.

Personal Statement: I think there is a thought provoking question that comes out of this chapter. Is it right to serve the greater good of your own society but at the expense of someone else’s or is it right to risk the greater good of your own society and sparing another? This is really the question when it comes to people who were rooting against American expansion.

A: It was literally stated that because of there being much more workers in America than there was work, it was economically logical to expand and create more work and economic stability.

I believe the one American Ideal that was dealt with in this chapter the most has to be opportunity. The whole reason for expanding in the first place is mostly because in America there were far more workers than there was work, by expanding, that problem was solved.
