Can you imagine having an IQ of 68 when the average IQ is between 90 to 120? Poor Charlie Gordon had that his whole life. He also didn't understand the simple thing that most people do and he got bullied for that by his “friends” everyday at work. If you had an exponentially lower IQ and then had the chance to get an experimental operation that would make him 3 times smarter would you do it? If your answer is yes, you would be just like Charlie who went through with this and became smarter than the Neurosurgeons who performed the operation on him. He would be better off after having the surgery because there are so many things that he would have never seen or experienced without it. Some evidence to support this claim is,”I don’t understand why I never noticed how beautiful Miss Kinnian really is.”(127).Before the operation Charlie thought Miss Kinnian was elderly lady but after he soon realized she was only 34 years old. Not only did the operation help him see how beautiful she was he was also able to see how young she was and came to the conclusion that he was in love with her. After having the operation Charlie soon realized he was smarter than the doctors who operated on him. Evidence to support this claim is, “Contrary to my earlier impressions on him, I realized that Dr. Nemar is not at all a genius.” (129).He realized that he knew more than he did in a matter of weeks than Dr. Nemar was after going through college and many years of being a Neurosurgeon. He also realized that his Neurosurgeons couldn’t give him tangible evidence about how the experimental procedure would end, so he did it himself. In conclusion, some people would say Charlie was better off not having the surgery but he said that he was grateful to be smart for just a little while than never at all. He got to see and experience things he didn't know existed. Charlie not only got to experience regular things in life he also helped many people who were just like
