The Right person in the Wrong Society
Many of us see freedom as debt free, no homeworks on school days, having no consequences for bad actions we have done. I have a strong mentality that McCandless sees freedom as a transcendentalist. This means that he sees freedom as being completely away from society. He proves this point as he heads towards Alaska and that is when he truly feels free. He has absolutely no rules when he is in the wild and he is free to do as he pleases. He also is free from all the hardships of society as he no longer worries about his parents, money, and relationships. He is spiritually growing as he has found himself in the wild. Now, the question is what type of person is McCandless?

Chris McCandless had a strong love for Carine in their youth. Carine McCandless saw his older brother as an idol she would look up to. “ I wanted to be like Chris, so I started to play French horn, too. And it turned out to be the one thing I was better at than he was. When I was a freshman and he was a senior, I made first chair in the senior band, and there was no way he was going to sit behind his damn sister. ,” You can see that Carine has great respect because in the book, Chris McCandless was seen as an overachiever but with little effort. His father was impressed by his son as he mentioned that his son has so much natural talent. Both perspectives of these two family members saw Chris McCandless as a gifted young man. If this story was told by his sister, it would had been much different as Carine knows much more than Krakauer. While Krakauer showed respect towards McCandless, Carine would have displayers an eventer greater understanding of Chris and would have presented much more reasons of why Chris McCandless ventured into the Alaska wilderness. Carine knew how brilliant Chris McCandless was inside and out. She grew up with Chris and knew all of his achievements and his thoughts. “Who could resist? And Chris knew it. He’d have this look on his face like I’m damn cute! Want to buy some beans?’ By the time he came home, the wagon would be empty, and he’d have a bunch of money in his hand.” remarked Carine. Chris would not take advice from anyone else other than himself. “ If you attempted to talk him out of something, he wouldn’t argue. He’d just nod politely and then do exactly what he wanted. “ is what his father recalls of his son. This is also depicted while Chris is given a ride to the Alaskan trails. Gallien, the guy who gave Chris a lift, offered assistance and advice to the young man yet, he accepted only the books that was two sizes bigger than his feet. “There was just no talking the guy out of it,” Gallien remembers. Gallien insisted that Chris come with him to Anchorage and he’ll even pay for his meal yet he declines the aid and makes a daring move to the trails still. Walt observed on how Walt would always do things his way. Whether it was racquetball form, technique, and strategy, Chris knew he had to do it his own way. This peculiar trait, he took it everywhere with him. Carine knew this
