Chronic Wasting Disease can be defined as a fatal neurological illness in deer, also known as cervids who are the prime targets(USGS,2007). Likewise, other disease that fall in this group include Scrapie in sheep and Mad Cow Disease in cattle. Any cervid carrying this disease has no clear signs of it till a later time resulting in listlessness, head lowering, weight loss, repetitive walking and lack of responsiveness(Texas Water resources Institute).Earlier this year, this fatal disease known as Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)was found found in free-ranging deer in Michigan. Furthermore, Chronic Wasting Disease found its way into Texas in Medina County, which resides in San Antonio at a whitetail breeder facility. As a result of this, there has been a great scare among other nearby captive whitetail breeders and hunters of cervid within Texas. Since then Texas Parks and Wildlife(TPWD) placed a hold on any transportation of captive white tailed deer within Texas until a confirmed risk assessment is successfully conducted on the present matter(TPWD, 2015). Nevertheless, the Texas Park & Wildlife and Texas Animal Health Commission are under way working together to establish a Management Plan for CWD specifically aimed toward hunters as guidelines to help decrease this outbreak.
