There are many causes of the Civil War. For example, Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist and was untrustworthy, slaves had no rights and were considered property therefore under the constitution slaves could not be taken away from someone by the government, anti-slavery violence began (John Brown), the compromise of 1850, The Fugitive Slave Act, Missouri Compromise, and finally the caning of Charles Sumner. The Fugitive Slave Act was one many leading causes that convinced the South that they could not obtain justice within the American Union because Southerners felt that the act would not be obeyed as much as the north had promised. Document A states “that when a person is held to service or labor in any State or Territory of the United
