I agree with Justice Henry Blackmun’s statement that in order to overcome racism, we must acknowledge and address race first. However, when it comes to the idea of being “colorblind” to race and only judge people by their character, it seems like it has good intentions, but becoming “colorblind” to races neglects the systemic inequalities going all the way back to historical racial discrimination. If we were to adopt a colorblind approach to society, it would be able to benefit those who wish to ignore racial disparities, while maintaining the unintentional perpetuating inequalities. Even though the colorblind approach could benefit parts of society, true equality involves acknowledging and breaking up systemic barriers. Where colorblindness
