The United States of America has two current dominant parties in political elections: the Republicans and Democrats. In elections, people seem to choose the political party that have the same values as they do. Both of these parties have key ideals that define the development of our laws and policies. The United States can be described as a democratic republic or a republic democracy depending on your political views. Based on how the United States is running as of now, Donald Trump ran as a Republican on the presidential election and won. A republic is usually considered the standard form of the U.S. government; it is ruled by the citizen’s choice of representative through voting. In a democracy, there is diligent involvement of the public in the making the political decisions of the state. Fair elections would be held to decide and replace the active government. Citizens get equal rights in a democracy, and the law applies to all the citizens of the United States equally. In comparison to the two political parties, one can find that in a democracy, power is with the citizens, while in the Republic the power rests in the hands of a representative who people have voted for. As well as a democracy has the rule that majority people are on top priority and republics has the rule that the law is a higher priority than the citizens of this country.
Many people debate on whether the United States of America is a Republic or a Democracy. It is more likely that this country is a Republican country. Democracy is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution,which gets people wondering if the U.S. was ever democratic. The word “republic” is stated in the Constitution, Article IV, Section 4.
