On Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, 14 billion dollars were lost in stocks. As a result of the money loss, the Great Depression began, then later a long string of droughts would lead to the Dust Bowl. This was one of the worst periods in U.S. history. The Great Depression and the Dust Bowl were devastating and both of them combined, enlarged the homeless population.
