Imagine a world where technology has taken control over people and their daily lives, what would that look like to you? Technology is everywhere in our daily lives and there's no way we can possibly avoid it as we advance as a society. Technology has so many advantages to help us everyday, making our lives easier. This problem of human reliance on technology is communicated through the short stories “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury and “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury. In “There Will Come Soft Rains”, technology doing things for us instead of helping us can be harmful in the long run. Even the dog that used to live in the house came back to see if the people still lived there, but the house fell apart and the dog left again. Eventually the house caught on fire, causing the house to begin to do anything in its power to help stop it. The personification of the house shows what technology has done to the world. With everything in shambles, this shows what a reality could be for the world if we continue to misuse technology in such ways. This shows that everything can be used in a good or a bad way, the outcome of such a thing is dependent on how you use it. Another way this is shown was when Ray Bradbury stated, ““The fire burned on the stone hearth and the cigar fell away into a mound of quiet ash on its tray. The empty chairs faced each other between the silent walls, and the music played.” (Bradbury 7). Even after the fire burned the house down, it continued to try to work with what it had and continue to keep its schedule going since that was what it was used to doing. This is another example of personification, showing that even though the house is burning down, the technology is continuing to try and protect itself by playing and not giving
