Have you ever not seen eye to eye with your parents? Or perhaps, not like their intentions? Have you ever created Tension with your parent? The narrators in both of these passages don’t get along with their parents. The narrator’s point of views create tension in the passages from Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun because they don’t see eye to eye, they’ve witnessed the loss of a parent and they are filled with disappointment. In Confetti Girl the narrator doesn’t see eye to eye with her father but tries to stay positive as illustrated in paragraph 12, “Dinner’s served. The beef’s tough and the papa’s are mushy, but who cares? I pretend it’s delicious because he lets me blabber...”(12). She’s disappointed with how her dad is trying to please her, not seeing eye to eye about reading, but she just feels bad to say it to his face. She is resentful to her father that tries to please her with books, when she justs uses them as coasters. “‘I’ll start reading right away.’ But I don't. As soon as he leaves, I put the book on my nightstand and use it as a coaster. The condensation from the cover makes a big, wet circle on the cover”(34). This narrator is clearly resentful and obtains the traits of disappointment and resentfulness which could all be a side effect from the loss of her mom.
