In literature as in life, people can make choices and must live with the consequences of those choices. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there is a choice that has to be made and they have to live with the consequences. Of Mice and Men is a story that follows two migrant workers named George and Lennie. George is the guardian to Lennie who is mentally challenged but extremely strong. Lennie has a problem through the book knowing how strong he actually is and what his strength can do. In Of Mice and Men George has to make an important decision on whether he should kill Lennie.
Lennie extreme strength is a factor in the decision George makes. In the book Lennie went to Curley's wife who told him to touch her hair. When he touched her hair he began to pull it. When Curley's

When George gets to the meeting spot Lennie begins to talk about how they will be able to get their dream life. George at the same time has a gun he can use to kill Lennie. George at this point decides that he will shoot Lennie in the back of the head. Here we see that George has to make the decision of whether or not he will shoot Lennie. He must debate the fact if he will actually go to shoot him. At the end George decides he will shoot Lennie and give him a peaceful death. But he has to sit there and decide if he will do it first. George was forced to decide if he would kill Lennie. Lennie went and murdered someone and that forced a bounty on his head. George had to kill Lennie to be able to allow him to have a peaceful death. At the end George killed Lennie. George made the decision that would help Lennie the most. In the world people are forced to make decisions that may not be of life or death situations but make large changes like this. They also have to think of the consequences and if this choice will help or hurt other people. This was just one of those stories of the broader pictures of how choices have the ability to change
