Do controlled fires help with the overall fire rate? Controlled fires are a healthy way for forests to grow and flourish. Controlled wild fires can potentially save lives. They can help new, healthier trees, and plants grow in. They can also remove any non-native species. Controlled burns can get certainly reduce the risk of uncontrollable fires. Controlled burns can reduce the risk of a big, uncontrollable wild fire. "Low intensity fires will help reduce the threat of wildfires that quickly grow out of control" (Benefits 9). Out of control wildfires happen as a result of fallen debris that lies on the ground, and overcrowding plants, and trees. Having a reduced chance of wild fires prevents people from losing property that could get burned, and potentially save lives. Not only does controlling burns help reduce the risk of burning homes, but it also helps with the health of the forest. …show more content…
Controlled burns "recycle nutrients back to the soil; and promotes the growth of trees, wildflowers, and other plants" (prescribes 2). As a result of the prescribed burns forests don't get overcrowded, and the plants and trees can grow and flourish the way needed. Due to overcrowding of trees and plants, the plants and trees can't grow the way they're supposed to. They also will now be able to produce the nutrients needed to support the environment around them. Although many disagree that controlled burns are a good thing. Some people disagree that controlled burns are good and healthy. One might say that controlled burns are bad because they promote pollution. "As a result, smoke and ash from the fire are negatively affecting air quality conditions from coastal North Carolina to Raleigh" (Bail, 2).
