Corruption In Animal Farm

When a change in leadership takes place if the new leader becomes too powerful this could will lead to corruption especially if the leader does not respect his people. In Animal Farm a novel by George Orwell about a farm in need of new leadership and sick of the harsh treatment of humans a revolution takes place. When one leader rises, a pig named Napoleon the ideals of animal farm get changed and corruption starts to occur within the farm. Through Napoleon's leadership and treatment towards the animals it is shown that living a life without respect or regard for others can lead to life of corruption, this can be expressed through the characterization of Napoleon and how the animals react to his harsh treatment.

“... and Mr. Pilkington once again congratulated the pigs on the low rations, the long working hours, and the general absence of pampering which he had observed on the Animal Farm.”(68). Napoleon had dinner with Mr. Pilkington so that he could congratulate him on the prosperity of the Animal Farm. During this time Napoleon and the other pigs started changing how they lived on the farm, like walking on their hind legs, reading magazines and smoking pipes. Also Napoleon changed anything that showed the farm was run and worked on by animals for example he changed the flag to just green, told the animals to stop calling each other comrade, and even changed the name of the Animal Farm back to its original name Manor Farm. Squealer even created a new saying for the sheep “two legs good, four legs better” to show that the pigs were superior to the rest of the animals. In the end the animals couldn’t even tell the difference between the men and the pigs and started to resent Napoleon. Napoleon also said that he doesn’t have any animosity towards humans and that he respects them and wants to life cohesively with them. This shows how cruel Napoleon is to the animals and that he doesn’t even regard them but he’ll give complete respect to the humans. The more corrupt Napoleon’s leadership becomes the more human like he starts act and the worse he started treating the animals on the farm. It also shows how
