The United States was built on crime and now more than ever it is as though they benefit from making criminals. Now it seems like companies as well as the government are benefiting from prisoners going to jail, because they get criminals to work for less money than they have to pay other people who are not in jail. Often times criminals going into jail come out better criminals, leaving them less functional in todays society. This sometimes results with them going back to prison. The government gets more money when criminals are incarcerated and that is why the united states is one of the world's highest rates when it comes to people in prison. One would believe that since the United States is so well developed, the crimes rates would be so low but since it makes so much money it crime rates are extremely high or that's what people are meant to believe. Prisons are a huge business in the United States which is why over 2 million people are incarcerated. Most of the people who are incarcerated, which are blacks and hispanics, are working full time jobs for major companies and do not receive any benefits or money but 25 cents an hour. The men are not even allowed to refuse to work or complain because if they do so they will be put in isolation cells. A decade ago there were only 5 private prisons with about 2,000 inmates and now there is about 100 private prisons with over 62,000 inmates incarcerated. The prisons depend on this income of prisoners so many normal people get locked up so they can get paid. Corporate stockholder's that make money from prisoners, work to keep people locked up longer than needed so they can have a longer workforce. When the crime rate goes down prison population goes up so that prisons get their
