The U.S. Government officials had promised the Sioux Indians that their land would be theirs forever in a treaty signed in 1851. This is important to know because the U.S. Government has broken the treaty multiple times since then. (“Taking a Stand”). So don’t you wonder what kind of Indians are protesting and what the former president and our president now are thinking? So are you for or against the Dakota Pipeline being put in.
The early life of the Sioux Indians began during the 17th century. Therefore, during the 17th century, the men got their status or standing by preforming brave deeds in warfare or during work, and the women were skilled at embroidery. It is evident that the pipeline is already half way finished, and that it would be a heavy expense to have to take back out the pipeline. (“Taking a Stand”). The ETP says that the pipeline is safe, and that there would be no threat to the pipeline being built by the water, while the people going against it say otherwise. (“Taking a Stand”). The Energy Transfer Partners have stated that the “Dakota Access Pipeline has done nothing but play by the rules”. They say that it is a smart idea, and safe idea that the pipeline should not change. (“Taking a Stand”). Given these points, the Energy Transfer Partners offered to reimburse the state for policing costs. (“Press Associated”). The people going against are also very important people. We have the former president, Obama, and the Native Americans going thru this tough time. There were about 200 Native Americans that have started the protest, and there have been more than a thousand that have come since. (“Taking a Stand”). Brian Cladoosby of the National Congress of American Indians stated that “For far too long, our lands and resources were seen as disposable, and that all tribes have faced this I none form or another, and Standing Rock has become the symbol for many.” (“Taking a Stand”). Third, the former president, Obama has requested that the construction of the pipeline near the Sioux tribe be stopped and has asked the Army Corps to review the issue again. And the recent decision was to find another route for the pipeline. (“Taking a Stand”). The Sioux tribe has stated that the pipeline is going thru their land, and that if the pipeline breaks it could pollute the water. And if it pollutes the water, which is their main drinking source then they have nothing else to drink from. (“Taking a
