The objective of this experiment was to observe the heart rate of Daphnia magna, water fleas, under a light microscope as they were introduced to three different substances. The first substance was spring water, then green tea, and lastly black tea. Each of the substances had a different effect on the Daphnia magna, increasing its overall heart rate. This experiment was preformed by using a pipette to place a single Daphnia Magna into the well of a concave slide and using a light microscope to observe the heart rate. A total of nine trials were preformed by placing a couple of drops of a different substance onto the flea, three trials with spring water, three trials with green tea, and three trials with black tea.
