I. Darley and Latane study gave a brief synopsis of previous psychological literature that was related to the bystander effect. They mentioned a case study of a lady named Kitty Genovese that was brutally attack and stabbed several times in the middle of the street in a residential section of New York City. It was believed that Genovese was being attacked for more than half an hour and non-of the residents considered to call the police officers to intercede the attack even though there was 38 witness. Milgram and Hollander believe that the witness did not try to intercede the attacker due to rational and irrational fears. Darley and Latane concluding results of the experiment was that the smaller group size reaction time was much quicker than the larger group size. The calculations that Darley and Latane got was that the group with two participants, the subject and the victim, had a response time of 52 seconds and 85 percent of the participants in that group were more likely to respond. The group with 3 participants had a response time of 93 seconds and 62 percent of the participants reacted to the victim seizure. The very last group had six participants and response time was 166 seconds and 31 percent of the participants reacted. Darley and Latane conclusion did support their hypothesis. Darley and Latane believed that the more participants in the group the longer it will take the participant to respond. As showed in the results, the group whose subject size was six had a longer response time and were less willing to respond towards the
