You’ve heard all the horror stories about daycare. Too many kids and too few caregivers. The little kid that always takes your child’s toy. The sickness that you can smell in the air the minute you walk through the front door. But, you have to go to work and leaving your little angel with your mother for the 4th time this week is not the most appealing idea. Let’s focus on the positive, once you understand daycare won’t seem so scary. Believe it or not, daycare can help your sweet little angel turn into a well-rounded child. Children need interactions from other children, not just your 70-year-old mother and her bingo buddies. It is never too early to start engaging your baby with other children whether it’s their age or children a little older. Interactions with other children teach your baby the basics of friendship, how to share and how to get along with others. It also helps develop communication and social skills. In edition to communication and social skills your children are also exposed to the basic building blocks of their education. Such as, colors, numbers, the alphabet and their vocabulary will increase. Imagine bringing your child to the bus stop and everything is going well until it is time for mommy or daddy to leave. The kicking, screaming and clinging to your leg at the bus stop while everyone around you staring, is embarrassing. By sending them to daycare they already have a sense of being away from you for some portion of the day. In a daycare setting if your child has a problem being separated from you, you are more than welcome to call and ask how they are doing to make the separation easier for both of you.
