Imperialism, or the expansion power and influence to other countries, was justified because of America’s high demands and God’s plan for the country. First, imperialism was a valid idea due to America’s high demands. In Document 2, U.S. Navy officer, Alfred T. Mahan states in an excerpt of his book, The Interests of America in Sea Power, that the United States should keep moving forward and expand past the west. Because of the countries high demand for goods, Americans need to conquer more land in order to meet that demand. According to navy officer Mahan, imperialism is justifiable because America’s demands must be met and the only way to do so is to conquer other lands.
