A majority of the works of literature that we read this year (To Kill a Mockingbird, Othello, The Odyssey, Lord of the Flies, and The Book Thief), contain a character who intentionally distorts the truth and/or deceives others. Said character may mislead others to spare others feelings, carry out a mild or a heinous crime, or just for their own personal security. No matter the reason for the deception, more times than not, somebody is harmed by the fabrication. In my opinion, two key examples of deceivers are Mayella Ewell from To Kill a Mockingbird, and Iago from Othello. Mayella Ewell is a young woman who has only recently reached adulthood.
