What is happiness?

What’s happiness? The textbook definition of happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being caused by positive and or pleasurable emotions. Knowing this definition, many people strive to attain happiness. No matter the price, suffering and obstacles you have to overcome in order to achieve happiness, people want it. Happiness can also include having the affection of someone you truly care and or love. Everyone has their own definition to happiness. The only simple answer to this question is, because we all want to feel great within ourselves. In order to achieve happiness, you need to be okay with the people in your life and the way your life is. Happiness isn’t just there for you to grab, but for you have to go through certain obstacles in order achieve what you want. My story of happiness involves John Jay and how I overcame those obstacles to be where I’m at now. Ever since I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a police officer. Being a police officer will make me happy because I’ll be doing something I love, which is helping people. I was always being told that a woman can’t do a men’s job, but I was really to prove them wrong. At the beginning of freshman year in high school, I had to find colleges that can help me into choose the path I wanted to go. I came across John Jay: College of Criminal Justice, from that moment I knew I wanted to go to John Jay and that John Jay will help me achieve my happiness. This helped me prepare myself for college. High school wasn’t all about the parties, the games, the people but it was about preparing, us, for the real world. At the beginning of junior year, I thought I wasn’t going to make it. Junior year at Aviation high school demanded so much of you and time, that I wasn’t able to manage my time. Junior year was also the time to practice and take the SAT’s to determine whether you can get accepted to the college of your dreams. The SAT’s was one of the many obstacles I had to overcome in high school, but with my mom’s help and my determination I was able to achieve the SAT scores required for me to get accepted to the college that was going to help me with achieving my happiness. Senior year was when I received my letter of acceptance from John Jay. That letter of acceptance, gave me a sign of hope and happiness because I made my mom proud of me. June 2014 was the date that I graduated from Aviation High School. Being able to see my mom filled with excitement and joy filling her eyes made me the happiest person alive.
