As a child growing up I did not know the correct definition of prejudice. I thought it meant you just did not talk to certain people because of their race. The correct definition of prejudice means “preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience”. People are prejudiced against because of their race, religion, gender orientation, sexual preference, and many more. It is true that prejudice still stands in America doubt the changes that were made to make everyone equal. I experienced prejudice by being turned down for a job because of my race. My awareness affected me by making me alert that people still judged you for skin color instead of you as a person. My experiences shaped my thoughts into making me more aware of the people in my surroundings. …show more content…
