My profession that I would like to take in the near future is to be a dental hygienist. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication it also comes with many responsibilities. One major reason is because I like teeth and everything that comes with it. If you didn’t know what a dental hygienist does, they help a patient maintain a good hygiene when it comes to the mouth. Dental hygienist are there to support the dentist and whatever he/she need them to do. There are a few duties that you would have to do and with this there are tasks as well. Some of these duties that you might see or might not even know that a dental hygienist do are removing tartar, stains and plaque from teeth. They also, take and develop dental x rays for the head dentist can know what is going in the patients’ mouth. A hygienist keeps track of patients care and treatment plan for there will not be any miss ups. One of the most important duties of a hygienist is to help and teach everyone how to have good oral health by brushing and flossing correctly every day.
Next a dental hygienist must wear the right apparel. The hygienist must know their tools too. Some things that they wear are safety glasses, surgical mask and gloves. One would wear these item for protection from infectious diseases. Utensil they use are power and ultrasonic tools. Some use an X ray machine to check for any problems. We see that with the right tools they won’t have a problem trying to fix the issue.
Third you have to go to school to become a dental hygienist. One would need their license required by state. Have to take the clinical exam and pass the American dental association. If going to school to become a hygienist you must have an associate degree in dental hygiene. Some classes you have to take are Pharmacology , Oral Pathology, Emergency Medicine, Dental Radiography, Head and Neck Anatomy and Pre-Clinical Dental
