This decision is made by the parole board which is responsible for the release of prisoners if they have served a minimum portion of their sentence. The two types of parole releases are discretionary and mandatory parole (Bohm & Haley, 2012). The discretionary parole is based on a prisoner who is eligible for parole, and the parole board will deny, or grant at their discretion to parole and allows the prisoner their freedom. The mandatory parole is where an inmate is released by the parole board because of their time served on their original, sentence or because of their good behavior.
