Differential Association Theory The film “Blow” covers many different topics of differential association theories. The attitudes, the values, and the motives for criminal behavior is learned behavior. The film Blow, starts with a young boy named George Jung, his parents teach him to have values and live a wonderful life for himself. George’s father is a hardworking man with his own business and his mother is stay home. This young boy George at ten watches his father struggle financially and his parents work hard to teach him the honest values of life. But in this film George Jung is a high school football star and has high standards to make it in the real world, but he fails to remember what his parents taught him, values! This man lived the life that we all want, his behavior to make money is in a criminal habit and not the honest way. Even though he was excellent on the process of starting a business, does not mean he was accurate to make it rich. Thinking he could sell and distribute drugs across the country is insane. He did for a while, but he had nothing behind him to cover his wealth, he didn’t cover his tracks. He trusted to many people and this is not the way his family raised him. A good kid gone badly by learning the bad behaviors to get further in life. That is not the case of it all, but George did get caught went to jail and received a second chance. George went to the same criminal behavior even though his parents are telling him to stop. Mother even called the authorities to try to stop her son from doing this horrific crime. The differential association theory to my understanding is anyone that is raised well and in a good home can be influenced by deviant criminal behavior by interpersonal communication with society. Some people may have been taught great values, but in reality they want more than the values. They want the suspense of what they can get away with, like George, he wanted all and got too greedy. He went from good to bad and the writers proceeded to present this theory by how a person can lose everything if you listen to criminal
