The French controlled most of Central North America and Louisiana for almost a century and yet there is only French culture left in small parts of Louisiana. The purpose of my research paper is to figure out why French culture was only retained in small areas of Louisiana and not all Central North America. The Ohio Valley was an epicenter of trade and commerce for both the French and British. Local Indians realized that trying to confront these Europeans super powers resulted in serious harm. The French and Indian War was a conflict of land. All parties involved just wanted to claim some part of the Ohio Valley was their land. Then in 1750 the government of Virginia sold 500,000 acres to the Ohio Company. The company was comprised of some of the most elite of Virginian society. With such a large acquisition of land, France had to act and strengthen their presence in the region. The Ohio Company wanted the French to acknowledge the land acquisition but in declining the acknowledgement of said acquisition resulted in the start of the French and Indian War. The French and Indian War was a bloody war resulting in many mass tragedies and massacres across the Ohio Valley. In 1760 British forces overwhelmed most of New France’s territory and forced the French to surrender in Montreal. Once the French and Indian War was over the French and British negotiated the terms of surrender. As a result of their surrender the French gave all Canadian territory to the British as well as the Louisiana territory was given to the
