Does society really pressure the teen to conform? In my own opinion I think it does. Often people don’t want to feel left out or different from everyone else, and this pressures them to conform so they can feel as if they fit in. Individuals feel like they will gain acceptance or recognition from their peers if they pretend to be someone they’re not and change their behavior to be exactly like them. Conformity will always be something very common that happens mainly in today’s youth and often pressures many in to being someone they are not.

Everyone has their own opinion but in my opinion social media puts the most pressure on teens to conform. For instance there might be this trendy stuff going around on social media that all of a sudden everyone is doing and the individual who isn’t might not want to feel left out so they go follow along with everyone else. Social media I think pushes teens the most in to conforming, not only social media but the television too, they have underlying messages that control the viewer and they of course don’t want to feel left out or different so what do they do? They conform, to overcome that fear.

People might say “be yourself” or “be unique” and you might agree and all but in reality you still have the fear of being different, or being judged for not doing what others do, yeah in some occasions conformity might be a good thing. But mainly it pushes the individual in to doing something they don’t want to do. For example joining a gang, you might not want to but they might say “don’t be scared” and start laughing at you and you do don’t want to be put through that type of embarrassment or judgment so you agree to
