Dred Scott a black man who was transferred from his home state by his slave owner. Dred Scott got married and had children with his wife who was a free black. When Dred Scott moved back to his slave state he sued for his freedom. The court therefore ruled out that Scott was more of a possession but not a citizen of the state. According to the prevailing laws at that time the laws could not deny the slave owner his property and because he wasn’t a citizen the court denied hearing the case. The Dred Scott case declared that the black were not united states citizens. The decision of the court was considered to be one of the worst to have ever been written as it did impose a rigid rather than a flexible construction of the American constitution,
