Drug Conversation Summary

There is little righting reflex happening in this conversation. Miller and Rollnick (2013) recommend against doing this as the person thinking about change may become defensive and thus making the changing process a little harder. Bill seems relaxed during this conversation and avoids the common traps such as nagging or lecturing John about the evil of drugs (Miller and Rollnick, 2013). Instead uses client-centered language to inquire about the subject that may be difficult to discuss such as the drug usage, home life or how John sees himself through his recreational activities. In this session, John is truly ambivalent about the change he is there to talk about. The idea that he is on the fence is a sign on it (Miller and Rollnick, 2013).
