Did you know about the Dust Bowl? “1.2 billion tons (nearly 1.1 billion metric tons) of soil were lost across 100 million acres (about 156,000 square miles [405,000 square km]) of the Great Plains between 1934 and 1935, the drought's most severe period.” Information found on Britannica. You want to know what caused the Dust Bowl? It was the farmers who were there. That’s why I think the farmers are guilty because all of their animals and farming equipment are kicking up so much dust. Evidence I have that can prove it was the farmers that caused the Dust Bowl is that, “In 1887 the farmers came, heedlessly ripping away the protective cover of turf.” The Dust Bowl. The last piece of evidence I found says, “And about ‘34, it got really bad. The drought lasted eight years.” The Dust Bowl. I chose these quotes because it talks about how farmers caused the Dust Bowl by ripping away turf and it only left the dirt and how droughts were caused because of it. Other people would say that they were innocent because they didn’t farm as much. They would also say that it's a natural thing that happens. And last, they would say it happens multiple times in the same place. But I think they’re wrong because the farmers did farm a lot and it was popular because they got so much money off it and didn’t have to worry about paying bills and all of that. They left all the land bare and removed protective cover of turf, which caused droughts. Overall, we learn that the dust bowl is the farmer's fault. I think it’s the farmers fault because of all of their farmers and their equipment. I think people should agree with me because to this day, a dust storm hasn’t happened in Oklahoma since 1935 when a lot of farmers left. In conclusion, we learned that it was the farmers' fault that the dust bowl happened because of low crop prices and high machinery
