One major change that occurred at my facility was the implementation of electronic health records. EHRs are defined by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) as a collection of electronics health information for and about patients, therefore providing immediate electronic individual and population level data by authorized users, as well as knowledge and decision-making support; leading to more efficient processes for healthcare delivery (Sensmeir, J, 2009, p. 20).
